Penghu Transportation 2026: Buses, Fun Easy and a Scooter-Free Trip

Contents

A practical scooter-free Penghu trip combines a walkable Magong base with one or two prebooked outings. Walk for the old town and meals; use Penghu Fun Easy or a private car for the North Loop, Huxi or Pengnan. Ordinary county buses can be economical, but waiting and the last walk often matter more than driving distance.

From October 16, 2026 to January 31, 2027, the official promotion makes all three Penghu Fun Easy sightseeing routes free. Seats still need advance arrangement through customer service. Check this option before buying a paid sightseeing-bus ticket for those dates. Read the autumn–winter free-ride notice.

Use the relative positions of Magong, Huxi, Baisha and Xiyu to understand the longer north-loop journey. This is the map currently offered on the official website, but the original artwork dates to 2020. Use it for geographic orientation only; historic route codes, stops and QR links do not replace current schedules.

    Match transport to the day

    Plan Useful transport Trade-off
Magong old town, food and harbor walks Walking with occasional short taxis Take breaks in heat rather than waiting for every short ride
One or two villages on an ordinary route County bus Check the return and the walk from the stop
Several North Loop, Huxi or Pengnan sights Reserved Fun Easy route Same-vehicle connections, with fixed stop durations
Remote stops, young children or longer visits Private car More flexibility at a higher cost
Wang’an, Qimei or other islands Separate boat booking and harbor transfer Sea conditions, port and check-in form another transport plan

Use Penghu Airport to Magong for arrival. Compare Penghu accommodation areas for a genuine walking route to the bus terminal, pickup point and evening food.

    Ordinary buses are point-to-point transport

The county network has Magong urban, Xiyu–Baisha, Huxi and Pengnan systems. Xiyu and Tongliang are a different direction from Shanshui and Fenggui. A continuous road on the map does not imply an easy bus connection between every attraction.

Fares vary by route and zone. The official Xiyu–Baisha chart lists NT$93 to Wai’an, while urban routes 0/1 have a NT$7 fare. Those ordinary fares are different from a NT$300 sightseeing-route ticket. Concessions have eligibility requirements, so check the correct fare for the endpoints and payment method.

Save both directions from the county bus timetable list and check service notices. A village having a bus stop is not enough to justify arriving without a return plan. Penghu has no railway alternative if the next bus is much later.

Choose a Fun Easy route and operating day

Route Focus Regular adult fare Usual operating days
North Loop Great Bridge, Three Immortals Pagoda, Daguoye basalt, Erkan and Tongliang banyan NT$300 Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Huxi Beiliao Kuibishan, Nanliao, Longmen bunker and Living Museum NT$250 Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
Pengnan Fenggui, marine propagation station, Shanshui Beach and Suogang pagodas NT$200 Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday

These are cruise-style buses: return to the same vehicle after a planned stop and continue with the group. The current itineraries are mainly morning outings ending around noon to 13:00. A product called a “one-day pass” does not mean a bus circles every hour all day for independent hopping on and off.

Check operating days before arranging the rest of the trip. A Wednesday-only stay does not provide the normal North Loop option. Pickup times vary by location; use the official stop-by-stop itinerary rather than arriving at Magong Bus Terminal at a time intended for Xiwei.

Free promotion versus regular paid reservations

The October 16, 2026–January 31, 2027 promotion requires no ticket purchase, but you must arrange limited seats with customer service at 0906-315-953 or official LINE @845izxyb. Free does not mean unreserved, and the offer should not be extended to another season.

For regular paid travel, complete booking or changes by 20:00 the previous day. A reservation secures a place, not a numbered seat. Walk-up boarding is only possible after staff confirm spare capacity. Plan the route and date for every journey on a multi-route ticket.

Regular adult combinations are NT$500 for North Loop plus Huxi, NT$450 for North Loop plus Pengnan, and NT$400 for Huxi plus Pengnan. All three cost NT$600, compared with NT$750 individually. A traveler taking only the NT$200 Pengnan route does not need the three-route ticket.

For paid dates, compare the relevant Klook option and cancellation terms. Confirm the operator’s reservation and bring the QR code or required voucher. A purchase confirmation alone is not permission to board any departure.

    Cards, concessions, luggage and refunds

A regular EasyCard or iPASS does not automatically identify a passenger as a resident or senior. The operator specifically distinguishes welfare-card discounts from ordinary-card charging. Eligible passengers should buy the appropriate concession ticket and carry proof.

Official website/app refunds normally carry a 15% fee; other channels apply their own booking conditions. Weather cancellations are handled separately. For county-bus transfers, retain the appropriate QR code or ticket stub, or request a ride certificate from the driver that day when paying by stored-value card. Do not expect a certificate to be recreated after you leave.

The FAQ permits luggage and folding strollers within limited space and mentions storage at Magong Bus Terminal. Request a low-floor vehicle or other accessibility arrangements when reserving. Foreign-language digital audio guides are available, but do not assume that means a live English-speaking guide throughout the trip.

Know the exact harbor for a boat trip

Local buses, mainland ferries and outlying-island tours are separate bookings. Save the operator’s specified harbor, counter and meeting address. Different sea routes can use different departure points, so “take me to Magong harbor” is not precise enough.

A sightseeing bus’s estimated finish should not be followed by a tightly timed, unmissable boat. Add the transfer and required early check-in. A normally running road service does not establish safe sea conditions; follow the boat operator’s notices and handle the ferry and car reservations separately if sailing changes.

When to choose a private car

A car is useful if you want a long photography stop in Erkan, an outlying restaurant or a pace suited to older relatives. Specify actual stops, time at each, accommodation pickup, overtime, child seats and bags instead of asking only for an “around the island” price.

You do not need to learn scooter riding on holiday to follow a conventional itinerary. A Magong base plus reserved transport can make a complete trip. Keep the final day close to town and the airport rather than relying on a remote outing to return exactly on time.

    Common questions

Can I hop off Fun Easy and catch another bus shortly afterward?

Do not plan on it. These are mainly reserved, fixed-itinerary services. Leaving the group early means arranging your own onward travel.

Do free winter rides still need a reservation?

Yes. The dated promotion removes the ticket charge, not the capacity limit or advance seat arrangement.

Does the Huxi stop guarantee access to Moses Parting the Sea?

No. Access depends on the tide and safety instructions that day. The bus timetable does not guarantee low tide.

Does a local bus ticket cover a boat to Wang’an or Qimei?

No. Buy the sea journey separately and verify the departure harbor and check-in time.
