Taipei to Yehliu: bus 1815 plus a walk to the geopark entrance
For a focused Yehliu visit in 2026, start by checking Kuo-Kuang bus 1815 from the east side of Taipei Main Station toward Jinshan Youth Activity Center. Get off at Yehliu, then walk to the geopark. You do not need to detour through Tamsui or take a train to Keelung first simply to reach Yehliu from central Taipei.
The important detail is the stop name: Yehliu is not the same stop as Yehliu Geopark. Bus 1815 uses the former, leaving a final walk. A bus fare, an admission ticket and a guided-tour booking are also different purchases, even when they all mention Yehliu.
Your transport choices
| Option | Arrival | Cost basis | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard bus 1815 | Yehliu stop, followed by a walk | Adult full fare NT$99 from Taipei Main Station; admission separate | A simple out-and-back geopark day |
| TRA to Keelung + 790 or 862 | Yehliu stop | Separate rail and bus fares | A day that already includes Keelung |
| MRT to Tamsui + 716 | Yehliu Geopark stop | MRT and bus charged separately; check service days | Staying in Tamsui or following the north coast |
| Prearranged car | An agreed legal drop-off | Quote includes vehicle, route, bags and waiting conditions | Groups with specific pickup or mobility needs |
| Day tour from Taipei | Package-specific parking and meeting points | Date-specific transport, guiding and inclusions | Combining Yehliu with Jiufen and Shifen |
The geopark’s transport page confirms these different stops. It also lists Taipei services 953, its 953區 short-route variant, and 1068 for Yehliu Geopark stop. Those have different departure points and schedules, so they are alternatives to investigate if conveniently located, not interchangeable departures from Taipei Main Station.
Finding bus 1815 at Taipei Main Station
- Make your way to the main railway building’s ground-floor East Gate 3. This is a building doorway, not MRT Exit 3 or an underground-mall exit.
- The Yehliu boarding diagram directs you about 110 metres from East Gate 3 to the Kuo-Kuang Taipei Station stop area.
- Find 1815 toward Jinshan Youth Activity Center and confirm that your departure calls at Yehliu, 野柳. If a letter suffix or different destination is displayed, read the stop list before joining the queue.
- Follow the current ticketing and boarding instructions. A nearby tour-group meeting point is not necessarily the public bus bay.
The live route calls the first stop Taipei Station (East Gate 3). Bay arrangements and temporary relocations can change, so use the on-site operator signs together with the 1815 route, timetable and map. Avoid following an old reference to an entirely different Taipei bus terminal.
Fares: make sure the table matches the route variant
The standard 1815 fare matrix lists NT$99 for an adult full-fare trip from Taipei Station (East Gate 3) to Yehliu. Search results can also expose tables for services using a different interchange. A different 1815 variant’s fare is not a correction to the standard route’s fare.
Check your exact boarding stop, ticket category and travel date. Follow the operator’s instructions for buying a ticket or using a supported transport card, including when to tap. Keep sufficient balance or suitable cash ready. A route with some reservation information does not guarantee that every departure or roadside stop offers reserved boarding.
Journey planning should include the queue in Taipei, the road journey, the walk from Yehliu stop and admission at the gate. Traffic in the city and along the coast can change the total substantially. Do not build a last-entry plan around an unsourced promise that the trip always takes exactly one hour.
A workable half-day budget
For a focused Yehliu visit, set aside roughly two hours from Taipei Main Station to entering the park, then one to two hours for the main rock formations, with the return journey separately allowed for. The two-hour outward block is an itinerary allowance for the queue, traffic and the final walk, not an operator-guaranteed running time. A morning departure gives you more room than aiming for the last admission.
At the published standard adult fares, two NT$99 bus rides plus NT$120 park admission total NT$318 before food. Use that as the public-transport baseline when comparing a tour. A tour also visiting Jiufen and Shifen offers a different itinerary, so compare the additional transfers and the time available at each stop.
From Yehliu bus stop to the geopark
The transport diagram puts the walk from Yehliu stop to the geopark at about 600 metres. Follow the signs toward the entrance on Gangdong Road, using designated crossings where necessary. Do not continue along the bus’s route toward Jinshan or mistake another waterfront attraction for the geopark entrance.
The geopark address is 167-1 Gangdong Road, Yehliu Village, Wanli District. The transport page includes its map link, useful for relating the stop to the entrance. With a stroller, limited mobility or heavy luggage, remember that reaching the gate is followed by further walking inside.
For a day trip, leave large suitcases at your Taipei accommodation where possible. Paying for a direct bus does not remove the walking leg, and carrying luggage around exposed coastal paths can make a short visit much harder.
Admission and park hours are separate from bus operations
The ticket page lists standard adult admission at NT$120, with concessions subject to their eligibility and evidence requirements. One standard full-fare 1815 trip plus one standard adult admission therefore totals NT$219, before the return trip, food or other purchases. This is a simple sum, not a bundled ticket offer.
The park lists regular hours of 08:00–17:00, with separate extended summer hours. A bus running later does not make evening entry possible. Check the current opening information and emergency notices before leaving; severe weather can affect park access and transport independently.
The return journey: use the Taipei-bound Yehliu stop
Find the return boarding point when you arrive, ideally before rain or darkness makes navigation harder. For 1815, return to Yehliu stop and check that the direction is Taipei, not Jinshan. Waiting at the stop named Yehliu Geopark is not a substitute if your route does not call there.
Return buses have already collected passengers before reaching Yehliu. A vehicle shown as approaching on the live tracker may not have room for your group. If you have a train, HSR booking or flight afterward, leave enough time for a full bus or road delay rather than treating the latest possible departure as the plan.
The geopark’s transport page says its visitor-center desk can help call a taxi, with pickup at the visitor center. That is assistance finding a vehicle, not a guarantee of immediate availability. Confirm destination, passenger count, luggage and fare arrangements. For a prebooked car, agree on one precise pickup point so nobody waits at the wrong Yehliu stop.
Accessibility and multi-stop days
Some 1815 services use low-floor buses, but confirm a suitable departure and boarding assistance with the operator if you need them. Inside the park, the accessibility page and map identify ramps linking parking, ticketing, the visitor center and parts of the main viewing areas. Use that route information rather than assuming the whole cape is level.
A public bus is a good fit when you want control over how long you spend with the rock formations and when you eat. Adding Jiufen and Shifen changes the calculation: those are separate destinations, not later stops on 1815. Tours can reduce transfer planning, while independent travelers may prefer fewer places and more time at each.
Tour options: choose a package that actually includes Yehliu
The products below are organized day tours with transport, not standalone admission tickets or public-bus passes. Klook places several routes on one product page, so select one explicitly including Yehliu. Compare the meeting point, guiding language, return location and whether park admission or other activities cost extra. Only expect hotel pickup when the confirmed package states it.
Price, operating dates, availability and cancellation terms depend on the selected package.
