Rona’s 2025 Christmas was a community celebration, not a shopping-center display transplanted into the mountains. The main tree, decorated streets, church singing and village carolling belong together. It rewards visitors willing to slow down and respect daily village life; a quick photo stop followed by an assumed late bus is a poor fit.

The 2025 Christmas Eve lighting took place in Rona’s cultural park

The main celebration on December 24, 2025 was at Rona Cultural Landscape Park. It featured a 27-metre tree, a light tunnel along village streets, church celebrations and torchlit carolling. Singing and prayer by the local Presbyterian church formed part of the lighting ceremony.

The overall celebration continued until January 1, 2026. That did not mean the Christmas Eve procession, fireworks, food experiences and performances repeated every night. Another season needs its own village and church programme; do not move the old dates into a new year.

2025 element Historical character Planning distinction
December 20 market and performances Local produce, crafts and music A different date from the main lighting
December 24 Christmas Eve Tree lighting, prayer, singing and carolling A religious and community occasion, not a nightly show
Tree and decorated streets Village-scale lights created with residents Decorations do not open private homes to visitors
Individual church programmes Separate gatherings across Xinyi Township Other villages are not parts of one walkable venue

Look beyond the tree, without treating homes as attractions

The 2025 programme included the December 20 market and Christmas Eve’s street activities, prayers and church gatherings. Churches across the township had their own locations, times and participation arrangements. Visiting Rona is not the same as covering Wangxiang, Dongpu and other communities in one evening.

Photograph the main tree from a position that leaves walking space, then follow public streets. A decorated doorway or garden is not an open photo studio. Ask before entering private property or photographing residents, children or interiors. During church services, follow the hosts’ arrangements and avoid interrupting prayers or singing for a better camera angle.

Past events included local food, crafts and hands-on experiences, but residents’ hospitality should not become an expectation of unlimited free meals. Join any torch procession only under the organiser’s instructions rather than bringing your own fire equipment. A daytime guided cultural visit and an evening celebration can complement each other, while a modest public-street walk remains a valid choice.

Bus 6728 connects from Shuili; evening transport needs its own plan

The bus 6728 route and timetable lists Yuanlin Bus 6728 from Shuili railway station to Rona, via Lower Rona and Central Rona. Use the intended stop and follow the current event directions toward the cultural park; the several stops containing “Rona” are not interchangeable.

Rona Elementary School, 73 Xinbi Lane, is a useful geographical reference. That is a school, not a general Christmas visitor center or an unrestricted parking area. Drivers and booked transfers should confirm the event’s actual drop-off point and follow local controls.

A daytime route does not guarantee a useful return after the lights or church gathering. Check both directions for the specific date, and arrange an evening transfer or suitable accommodation before deciding to stay late. Also verify the actual rail or replacement connection at Shuili rather than assuming a railway-station stop name guarantees a train.

For a longer Nantou trip, the Taichung–Sun Moon Lake transport guide explains the main approach. If combining the Checheng area, check the Shuili–Rona leg separately; lake-area buses do not automatically serve the village. Compare Taiwan’s Christmas destinations if a simpler city outing would suit your transport needs better.
