How to plan a Cingjing Farm visit without rushing
Cingjing Farm is best enjoyed as a mountain outing: sheep grazing on sloping fields, broad views towards Taiwan’s central mountains, and enough time to stop along the paths. For a first visit, make Green Green Grassland and Guanshan Pasture your main plan, then add either the Skywalk or Small Swiss Garden if you still have energy. Families and travelers using public buses rarely gain much by squeezing every nearby attraction into one day.

This 2026 Cingjing Farm guide starts with three decisions: whether the sheep show runs on your date, when you can reach the actual entrance, and how you will get back from your final exit. Cingjing and Qingjing are different spellings of the same place. It is in Nantou County, inland from Taichung, with Puli serving as the main transport hub on the way into the mountains.
| Your priority | Suggested time | A realistic plan |
|---|---|---|
| Sheep, scenery and one performance | About 2.5–3.5 hours at the farm | Grassland plus Guanshan Pasture; skip the full Skywalk |
| Both shows and a scenic walk | About 4–5 hours locally | Morning performances, lunch, then the Skywalk |
| Day trip by bus from Taichung | Keep the whole day free | Build around your arrival and return services |
| A slower family or photography trip | One overnight stay | Travel up one day and visit the farm the next morning |
These are planning allowances for walking, photographs and breaks. They are not fixed tour durations, and they do not include the journey from Taichung. If fog, queues or tired legs slow things down, shorten the walking route rather than rushing the return bus.
Read the map first: the grassland is uphill from the garden
Along Provincial Highway 14A, the main visitor areas run from the northern Grassland entrance downhill towards the southern shopping area, Guanshan Pasture, the tourist service center, Small Swiss Garden and the guesthouse area. The sheep show is in Green Green Grassland; the equestrian show is in Guanshan Pasture. You must walk between the two performance areas.
Use the Cingjing Farm visitor map to locate the northern entrance, sheep-show area, Guanshan entrance and Skywalk access points. The map distinguishes farm entrances from Skywalk entrances. Its paths also show why a route that looks short can still involve stairs.
Entering at the northern end and heading south puts much of the longer journey downhill. It does not make the entire route step-free. The Great Wall Trail and Step-by-Step Trail include stairs; wheelchair and stroller users should follow suitable paths and check the available route with staff. Also plan how to retrieve a car parked uphill after finishing farther down the mountain.
Green Green Grassland: sheep and open slopes
The grassland is the main reason to come. Walk between the open slopes, Sheep Story House and viewpoints instead of spending the whole visit following one group of sheep. For photographs, look for a path that gives you layers of grassland and distant ridges. Stay on the visitor paths and give the animals space; do not chase or position them for a picture.
Guanshan Pasture adds another landscape and the equestrian performance. It makes sense as an extension if you have time and energy. A shorter visit focused on the main grassland can still be satisfying, especially with young children.
Cingjing Skywalk: add it for a longer mountain-view walk
The elevated Skywalk is approximately 1.6 kilometers long. It offers a separate perspective over the slopes and valleys without following the roadside for the whole stretch. Allow roughly 45–60 minutes for a leisurely walk, longer if you stop frequently; connections from its exits to restaurants, the garden or a bus stop take additional time.
The South Shopping Area and Butterfly Garden ends provide access, while the Story House end links with the farm. Late-afternoon rules restrict the available route: after 15:30, the Story House section operates only to the South Shopping Area and back; after 16:00, travel from the Butterfly Garden end towards the South Shopping Area is one-way. Entry ends at 16:30 and the walkway closes at 17:00. Start earlier if you want a complete walk.
If the Skywalk fits your route, compare its standalone ticket with garden combinations. Not every package includes farm admission, and some farm-and-Skywalk packages are explicitly restricted to foreign visitors.
Small Swiss Garden: an optional finish
Small Swiss Garden is a separate paid attraction farther downhill, with landscaped gardens and water features. It works well for visitors staying nearby or looking for a gentle final stop. Leaving the Skywalk does not put you directly inside the garden: there is still a connecting walk. If the group is tired, stop for food around the service-center and shopping areas instead.
Sheep-show and equestrian-show times
| Performance | Usual schedule | What it means for your day |
|---|---|---|
| Sheep show | 09:30 and 14:30 on weekends, national holidays, and winter/summer school vacations except Wednesdays | About 30 minutes; do not assume it runs on an ordinary weekday |
| Equestrian show | 10:45 and 15:45 daily | At Guanshan Pasture, requiring a walk from the sheep-show area |
Both are outdoor performances and may change in poor weather. For the 09:30 sheep show, arrive early enough to buy or redeem tickets, use the restroom and walk to the performance area. Reaching the parking lot at 09:30 is too late for that relaxed start.
Ordinary weekdays can still be rewarding for sheep and scenery. They simply need a different itinerary. If the show is the purpose of your trip, select a suitable date before arranging transport.
Three realistic Cingjing itineraries
Early arrival on a sheep-show day
- Enter at the northern gate around 08:45–09:00. Explore the nearby grassland and reach the sheep-show area before 09:30.
- After the approximately 30-minute show, follow the farm paths south towards Guanshan Pasture for the 10:45 equestrian performance. Leave the longer café break until afterward.
- Stop for lunch. To add the Skywalk, return towards the Guanshan entrance and South Shopping Area before entering the walkway there. This includes some backtracking; it is not one continuous downhill route.
- Walk towards the Butterfly Garden end, then finish around the tourist service center. Add Small Swiss Garden only if you have time, energy and a comfortable return connection.
This is most convenient after an overnight stay or with an early private transfer. If you parked at the northern end, agree on an uphill pickup or another return arrangement before setting off. A downhill itinerary loses its appeal if everyone must climb back at the end.
An ordinary weekday without a sheep show
Explore Green Green Grassland in the morning, then aim for the 10:45 equestrian show if your pace allows. If not, enjoy Guanshan Pasture as a walking area rather than waiting several hours for the afternoon show. After lunch, choose the Skywalk for mountain views or the garden area for a shorter outing. The main visit can fit into half a day locally, leaving space for your hotel or journey back.
Arriving around lunchtime from Taichung
Eat first and select one afternoon priority. On a show day, visit the grassland before the 14:30 sheep performance. Add the 15:45 equestrian show only if your return bus or pickup allows it. Watching both and then attempting the full Skywalk leaves very little margin before closing, so drop the Skywalk or garden.
On a normal weekday, choose a grassland walk or a Guanshan visit built around the later equestrian show. Your transport is the deciding constraint: leave before the show if staying for it would mean missing the last workable connection.
Getting to the right entrance
From Taichung, the mountain journey normally runs through Puli. Nantou Bus routes 6658, 6659 and 6664 serve the Cingjing corridor, with some linked Taichung services arranged as through connections at Puli. See our Taichung to Cingjing transport guide for departure points, transfers and luggage planning.
For the northern Grassland entrance, confirm the bus serves the Qingqing Caoyuan/Green Green Grassland stop. Do not get off at the lower guesthouse area simply because the stop includes “Cingjing,” then discover you have a steep uphill journey with luggage. Hotels are scattered along the mountain road: ask for the nearest stop and the final walking or pickup arrangement.
Mountain buses should not be treated like a frequent city service. Check both directions, allow waiting time and use the correct side of the road. A travel package does not necessarily give priority boarding.
Drivers should choose parking and the final exit together. A point-to-point downhill walk requires a way back to the car. Alternatively, plan smaller sections with some backtracking. For a hired driver or hotel pickup, agree on a named gate or parking area rather than simply saying “Cingjing Farm.”
Tickets: three attractions with different admission
| Attraction | Standard adult reference price | What you are buying |
|---|---|---|
| Green Green Grassland / Guanshan Pasture | NT$270 | The main farm visit; usual opening hours 08:00–17:00 |
| Cingjing Skywalk | NT$50 | Separate walkway admission, not grassland entry |
| Small Swiss Garden | NT$150 | Separate landscaped-garden admission |
Prices, promotions and operations can change. Check the selected date, included attractions and cancellation terms. Concession tickets require supporting documents. A weekday shopping-credit benefit attached to certain direct farm purchases is not automatically included with platform tickets, so compare the actual inclusions as well as the price.
The Klook product page offers Skywalk-only and Skywalk-plus-garden choices, alongside farm-and-Skywalk packages labeled for foreign visitors. Check the exact package and its passport or residency requirements. Do not assume a foreign-visitor package applies to every passport or residency category, and purchasing the Skywalk or garden alone does not provide farm admission.
Food, rest stops and visiting with children
After the equestrian show, look around Guanshan Station and the South Shopping Area for a convenient lunch. After walking downhill, use the tourist service center, Small Swiss Garden surroundings and Cingjing shopping area for refreshments. This keeps meals on your route. A destination restaurant serving Yunnan-style food works better with a confirmed vehicle or hotel transfer, especially for dinner.
The grassland is not a picnic park: outside food, boxed meals and picnic mats are prohibited. Use only feed supplied by the farm for animal feeding. Do not offer bread or snacks, and never feed from a plastic bag. Keep young children close on the slopes, particularly around moving animals.
Strollers reduce carrying time on suitable paths but become extra work at staircases. Check the accessible route before entering. For limited stamina, choose one area and one performance rather than combining both major stair trails with the full farm and Skywalk. Use restrooms before shows so you do not have to leave just as they begin.
Seasons, clothing and whether to stay overnight
Cingjing lies roughly 1,750 meters above sea level and higher. Pack for changes in mountain temperature and visibility rather than dressing only for Taichung. Spring can bring flowering plants; summer draws visitors seeking a cooler break; autumn and winter call for more windproof and warm layers. Blue skies, clear ridgelines and seas of cloud are never guaranteed.
Carry sun protection and water even on a cool day. After rain, slow down on grass slopes and steps. In heavy rain or thick fog, shorten the outdoor plan and make the return journey your priority.
A day trip is workable for sheep and scenery. An overnight stay gives you a better chance of reaching the early show and leaves room for a relaxed meal. Without a car, prioritize the bus stop, dinner options and hotel pickup. With a car, compare scenery and parking too. A beautiful balcony photograph does not tell you how steep the final hotel driveway will be.
Hehuanshan and Sun Moon Lake deserve their own time. For Hehuanshan, check road conditions, transport and weather separately; do not apply Cingjing’s conditions to higher mountain stops. For another lake day, use our Taichung to Sun Moon Lake guide. Combining a full visit to both areas in one day removes much of Cingjing’s relaxed appeal.
Cingjing Farm FAQ
Is Cingjing worth visiting without the sheep show?
Yes, if you want grazing sheep, hillside scenery and a mountain walk. If sheep shearing is your main reason for going, choose a show date instead of assuming every weekday has performances.
Does a farm ticket include the Skywalk?
They are separate admissions. Only a package explicitly including both covers both, and package eligibility still matters.
Which entrance is best for the equestrian show?
The show is at Guanshan Pasture, so its entrance is the more direct approach. Do not plan to buy a ticket at the Wujie gate: it no longer sells tickets and is exit-only.
Can pets enter Green Green Grassland?
Ordinary pets are not allowed. Guide dogs are handled under the applicable access rules. A pet-friendly hotel in Cingjing does not imply pet access to the farm.
Can I still follow the full route in the rain?
Reduce slope and staircase sections first, and expect outdoor show changes. Severe weather or difficult road conditions may justify changing the day entirely.
Are Qingjing and Cingjing different destinations?
No. Both spellings refer to 清境. Include the Chinese destination and a specific gate when booking a transfer to make the pickup or drop-off clear.
