Keelung’s 2025 winter Christmas display stood out for its harbour setting rather than the entrance to a single department store. Ocean Plaza works well when you want dinner, waterfront views and perhaps a longer river walk in one evening. If conditions are uncomfortable, reduce the plan to a short harbour stop instead of trying to complete every illuminated location.
The previous winter programme is historical
The winter exhibition ran from 21 November 2025 to 4 March 2026, covering Ocean Plaza, the Keelung Art Museum area and both sides of Tianliao River. That edition featured MR. SHARK and a sixteen-metre Christmas tree at Ocean Plaza. These are 2025-season facts. Another season’s year-end programme and theme need separate confirmation. A programme continuing into March belongs to that earlier winter, not the following Christmas.
| Route | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Ocean Plaza only | A post-dinner stop or limited walking | Harbour and tree rather than every location |
| Add the museum surroundings | More city scenery | Exterior lighting is separate from museum entry |
| Continue to Tianliao River | Visitors who enjoy longer walks | More time needed before the journey home |
An outdoor lighting route does not grant museum admission or imply daily stalls and performances. Decide whether your main aim is scenery or a market before choosing the evening.
Arrange the return before extending the walk
The Taipei-to-Keelung guide compares rail and coach approaches. From Keelung railway station, use the South Station exit: the walk to Ocean Plaza takes around three to five minutes, depending on your exit and pace. Identify your departure stop and direction before sightseeing. Different transport services can use different boarding locations even when the destination label is the same.
If your daytime plan includes Heping Island or Badouzi, treat those as separate travel sections. The Heping Island connection and Badouzi transport guide help avoid underestimating those transfers. For a first visit, one daytime destination plus the harbour evening is easier to manage than an ambitious coast-wide circuit.
Photograph the setting, not just the tree
For the short route, initially allow 45–60 minutes; add a separate walking and rest allowance for the river. These are suggested durations. Start with a wider photograph that retains the harbour background rather than crowding directly beneath the tree. When photographing reflections, stand securely before looking down at the screen and stay away from the waterside edge.
Make dinner a deliberate part of the plan. It is easy to keep walking and postpone a proper meal. Families and older visitors benefit from a section that can be shortened at any time rather than a promise to reach the final bridge. When the weather changes, keeping everyone comfortable matters more than completing a photo checklist.
Should you add Taipei’s lights afterwards?
Returning to Taipei is different from adding another major night outing. Use the Taipei Christmas-area guide to reserve Xinyi or Zhongshan for another evening. Keelung is worthwhile for its harbour-city atmosphere; it does not need to become one stop in a race between Christmas trees.
FAQ
Does the March end date confirm the next Christmas season?
No. It was the end of one winter exhibition that began the previous November, not confirmation of the next year-end season.
Must I visit all three areas?
No. Ocean Plaza can be the whole short outing. Extend towards the museum or river only if time, weather and energy suit the group.
Are markets included every night?
An illuminated route does not mean there are stalls every night. Look for a separate market schedule if shopping is your priority.
